Victorian Era British 1828 Pattern Scottish Officers Broadsword By J. Cumming - Vintage Sword
This is a Scottish 1828 Pattern Highland Officers Basket Hilt Sword. It features a 31.5" engraved double fuller steel blade, total length of 38", steel basket hilt guard with leather and felt lining and wire wrapped ray skin handle. The ricasso is marked "J.CUMMING 1 ENGLISH ST DUMFIRES" on one side and proof marked on the other. The blade features the H.M. Queen Victoria Royal Cypher (crown over VR) who reigned between 1837 and 1901, we could find no information about the retailer named on the ricasso. Overall condition is good with the original edge, the blade some tarnishing and light scratches but the engraving is well defined, the guard has patina and lining could use a good cleaning.Included is the original scabbard that has been painted silver at some point, it has scuffs, scratches and a few dents.
