WW2 USGI Ithaca Model 37 Featherlight 16 Gauge Shotgun, US Ordnance Marked - Scarce Collectible *1942*
This is a WW2 USGI Ithaca Model 37 Featherlight shotgin chambered in 16 gauge. It features a 28-inch barrel, 2-3/4-inch chamber, blued finish, checkered walnut furniture, engraved game scene receiver, and 4-round magazine tube. The serial number indicates this shotgun was manufactured in 1942. The left side of the receiver is marked with a U.S ordnance "flaming bomb" insignia and "R.L.B" (Lt. Col. Roy L Bowlin) inspector initials. The barrel has a matching serial number and is marked with “P” proof stamp. Military-issue Ithaca Model 37s chambered in 16 gauge are extremely scarce. The gauge and 28-inch barrel length suggests this was most likely used for training purposes and not combat. Shotguns such as this were used on bases to teach bomber gunners how to track targets by learning skeet shooting. This shotgun is in good mechanical condition with a bright shiny bore. There is a fair amount of wear and to the bluing, especially to the receiver along with scratches and patina. The wood is in nice condition with very little wear to the checkering, and there are some scuffs, dings, and pressure marks. This would make a great addition to a WW2 firearms collection.
